Information on literacy and education are furnished below:

Literacy:

In Kamalganj uazila it is found that 40.67% population aged 7 years and over are literate. Literacy rates by sex and locality of three consecutive censuses are shown in following table.

The above table shows that the literacy rate of Kamalganj uazila in 2001 is 40.7% for both sexes, 45.3% for males and 35.9% for females. A sharp increase in the literacy rate is seen over the last decade in the upazila. In urban the literacy rate is 47.0% for both sexes, 50.2% for males and 43.7% for females which are higher as compared to the corresponding rates in rural area of 39.9% for both sexes, 44.7% for males and 34.9% for females. A significant improvement is seen in the literacy rate of the urban area of the upazila over the last decade 1991-2001. The table shows an increase of 12.1%, 9.6% and 14.8% percent point in 2001 over 1991 for both sexes, males and females respectively for the upazila. In Kamalganj upazila the literacy is the highest i.e.64.6 in ward No 01 of Kamalganj paurashava and the lowest i.e., 34.9 in Islampur union.

School attendance at the age group 5 to 24 years for males is 37.3% and for females is 34.3% .In urban area the rate is slightly lower i.e. 36.6% i.e. for males and 34.9% for females. For rural area the rate is slightly higher i.e, 37.4% for the males and 34.2% for the females. Among various age groups, the school attendance of females for the age group 10-14 years is seen the highest than males in urban area, leads to higher attendance for females in the upazila.
