Welcome

Kamalgonj, the second smallest upazila of Maulvibazar zila in respect of population, came into existence in 1922 as thana. Nothing is definitely known about the origin of the upazila name. It is learnt that the Zamindar of the locality appointed one Nayeb named Komol Narayan for collection of revenue. He took keen interest in the development activities of the estate (zamendari) and became very popular in the locality. He was also popular for social work. He set up a trading center meaning Ganj in Bengali which became known as Kamalganj after the name of the Nayeb. It is generally believed that the upazila might have derived its name as Kamalganj from the name of the place where the headquarters is located.
